“Roused to the Desire for Wisdom” – St. Augustine
The role of the catechist is simply “to make Christ known, loved, and followed” by those to whom he ministers. (CEP, Plenary Assembly, 1970). Furthermore, the Church is clear that the most compelling and effective way to fulfill this ministry is for Catechists to ardently live out the saving truths of the Gospel. In other words, the Catechist himself must know, love, and follow Christ (GDC, 234).
The Alcuin Institute is committed to providing Catechists – both old and new – the opportunity to grow in a holistic and applicable knowledge and love for Christ and His Holy Catholic Church. We provide local opportunities for Catechists to leisurely and meaningfully explore the vast deposit of the Catholic intellectual and spiritual tradition as it has been expressed in theology, philosophy, and the arts. We gather in small intimate groups around 'hearths' throughout the diocese to eat, drink, pray, and think deeply together.
