Today - January 31, 2020 - is my friend’s last day as a full-time faculty member of the Alcuin Institute. Dr. Brown has accepted a new position as Headmaster of the diocesan Cathedral school. He leaves having faithfully served the Institute for 2 years, and as such, has been instrumental in shaping its mission and charism. It is thus with a degree of sadness that I bid Dr. Brown farewell as he begins his new apostolate.
Although, the transition represents a loss to the Alcuin Institute, it will be a great gain for the diocese. Having someone like Marcel - with his knowledge and zeal for classical education - at the helm of HFCS is truly a blessing.
My woefulness is somewhat allayed knowing that if I ever desire to spar over how to interpret Homer a worthy interlocuter is but down the road.
Godspeed Marcel.
